See the Kinshachi, golden dolphins iconic to the castle, and stroll around the castle grounds, especially beautiful in spring.
Established in 1980, Togokusan Fruits Park features 15 fruit orchards and a fruit house introducing various fruits. However, in this season, cherry blossoms are the stars of the park! Weeping cherry trees are especially in abundance here and line the walking paths and garden. Admire the pretty pink blossoms and other spring flowers here!
A designated national treasure, Inuyama Castle is one of the oldest in Japan. One of only 12 original castles remaining today, its main keep is built almost entirely out of wood and rock. Located on a hill next to the Kiso river, panoramic views of the surrounding can be had from the top of the castle.
Day 02
Gero Onsen – Okuhida
Drive: (Breakfast/-/Dinner) • Coach: (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Hodakaso Sangetsu (Hot Spring) or similar
Experience a traditional, small town atmosphere at Gujo Hachiman today. This riverside town is known for its pristine waters and the many canals, fountains and waterways are still used for daily activities like washing vegetables. Stop by at any of the charming pocket parks where potable water is available, and also try food replica making, another of Gujo Hachiman’s claims to fame.
Formed over approximately 250 million years, the Hida Great Limestone Cave is a fantastic cavern of about 800m where icicle-like stalactite formations can be seen. Walking through the beautifully lit cave will feel like walking through a different world!
The Hirayu Grand Waterfall is one of Japan’s top 100 falls and among the top three in Hida. Witness gushing water drop 64m amid lush greenery at this peaceful waterfall.

At the top, 2,156m above sea level, let the panoramic view of the still snow-capped Northern Japanese Alps take your breath away!
Another of Japan’s charming traditional Japanese towns, Hida Furukawa in the mountains of Gifu is famous for the high quality of timber found there. During warmer months, colourful carp can be seen swimming in the canal flowing through town, lined by iconic white-walled warehouses on either side.

Hotel: Honjin Hiranoya Bekkan (Hot Spring) or similar
Take a stroll round the old-style streets of Takayama today. Start by visiting Miyagawa morning market, one of the top three in Japan. The lively market has been running for hundreds of years and sells all sorts of local foods which you can sample. At the old town, merchant houses dating back to the Edo period have been beautifully preserved. Step into the many shops and sake breweries along the street and try some of the local specialities. Near the Jinya-mae morning market, the former local government office of Takayama Jinya allows you to peek into an office of olden Japan.
Day 05
Takayama – Wakura Onsen
Drive: (Breakfast/-/Dinner) • Coach: (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Wakura Onsen Kagaya (Hot Spring) or similar
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Shirakawa-go this morning. Nestled in the mountains of the Japan Alps are traditional gassho-zukuri farm houses whose roofs are built entirely without nails. Designed to withstand heavy snowfall, the unique structure of the houses make them particularly picturesque.
Neighbouring Gokayama is a smaller cluster of gassho-zukuri farm houses that is less developed and retains more of the traditional feel. It is known for its traditional culture of folk dances and music, using instruments native to the area.
Stop by at Takaoka Kojo Park, the former site of Takaoka castle. All that remains of this demolished castle is its moat and some stone walls, but the park continues to be a popular spot for locals, especially during cherry blossom season. Around 1,800 cherry trees of 18 varieties stand in this park and are especially beautiful when reflected in the water of the moat.
Day 06
Wakura Onsen
Drive: (Breakfast/-/Dinner) • Coach: (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Wakura Onsen Kagaya (Hot Spring) or similar
Drive up the Noto Kongo Coast this morning and visit Ganmon. The rock formation is named “gate rock” for the natural sea cave that was carved out by crashing waves, creating a hole that looks like a gate. Go down to the cave and watch waves burst through the ‘gate’ when the wind is high, and take in the view of the wide expanse of coast and sea from the top of the rugged, tree-covered cliffs.
Another of the three famous morning markets in Japan, Wajima Morning Market has been running for over 1,000 years. You can find fresh seafood and many other local foods, but the highlight of this market is the lacquerware items that Wajima is famous for. Pick up some quality lacquerware pieces as souvenirs here!
The thousand terraced rice fields of Senmaida are a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Located on the side of a mountain facing the Sea of Japan, the rice fields are especially beautiful as the sun sets on the horizon beyond it.

The icon of Kanazawa, Kenrokuen is one of Japan’s three most beautiful gardens. Gorgeous in every season, the sprawling hill-top garden is especially so in spring when bathed in the blossoms of 400 cherry trees.
Immerse yourself in art at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Home to Leandro Erlich’s “Swimming Pool”, the museum itself is a work of art. Exhibits can be found all around the museum and grounds, many of which encourage interaction with the art piece and with other visitors.
99% of Japan’s gold leaf comes from Kanazawa and at Hakuichi Hakuko-kan, a shop specialising in gold leaf, you can try your hand at gold laminating. Create your own original gold laminated souvenir that you can bring home with you.
