Arriving in Miyazaki today, pay a visit to Aoshima Shrine, an island shrine surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation. Known for bringing luck for marriage, the picturesque island the shrine sits on is also known for its unusual wavelike rock formations, or ‘devil’s washboard’, which appears at low tide.
Day 02 (Tue, 25 Mar’25)
Miyazaki – Kirishima

Nothing says spring in Japan like cherry blossoms and Mochio Park is the perfect place to bask in the pink glow of these flowers this afternoon! With 2,600 cherry blossom trees of different varieties lining a path of 2km, it is no wonder that this is one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom spots.
In the evening, enjoy your stay at the wonderful Myoken Ishiharaso. Situated in a peaceful area along the river, luxuriate in your private hot spring bath after a sumptuous dinner of select local products carefully prepared for your palate.
Day 03 (Wed, 26 Mar’25)

Start today at the symbol of Kagoshima, Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. Located in the middle of Kagoshima Bay, it stands at 1,117m and has a circumference of about 50km. Stop by the Arimura Lava Observatory where you can peek into the volcano’s craters. Walk along the lava flow on the mountainside, distinguished according to eruption date by the state of the surrounding vegetation.

A traditional Japanese garden that is beautiful in all seasons, Senganen Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is over 350 years old. The garden consists of a preserved residence that was the home of the former ruling Shimazu clan, ponds, streams and shrines, including a cat shine for cat-lovers! The attractive garden is accentuated by the 'borrowed scenery' of Kagoshima Bay and Sakurajima in the background, creating picture-perfect settings.
Later, take a stroll through Kagoshima’s leading shopping arcade, Tenmonkan. A sheltered shopping street in downtown Kagoshima lined with all kinds of stores, restaurants, cafes and boutiques, this is the best place in the city to get your shopping fix!
Day 05 (Fri, 28 Mar’25)

The Kirishima Open-Air Museum is a modern art museum set in tranquil natural surroundings. Known as an 'art forest', about 22 art pieces dot the open space of the museum, melding seamlessly with the beautiful Kirishima forest. The works of art here are in fact created with their surroundings in mind and are all original pieces crafted by local and international artists who have visited the museum. Enjoy art with all your senses as you interact with the art works here.
Move on to Sogi Falls later, a 12m high thundering waterfall which cascades down Senjoiwa Rock. Stretching across 210m, the scale and power of this waterfall has earned it the nickname of the ‘Niagara of the East’.
Relax at your accommodation at Ayu no Sato this evening where you can enjoy a soak in your private open-air hot spring bath with a view of the Kuma river and the Southern Kyushu Mountains. For dinner, dine on a meal curated from fresh seasonal local ingredients, showcasing the rich natural and agricultural produce of the area.

Take a stroll around Suizenji Jojuen Park this morning, a traditional Japanese landscape garden built in the 17th century. Structured after the 53 stations of the Tokaido, a famous road connecting Edo and Kyoto during the Edo period, the garden consists of perfectly placed ponds, trees and hills, including a mini version of Mt Fuji.
Later, drop by Kumamoto Castle, regarded as one of Japan’s most impressive castles with many castle buildings and historical materials showcased here. The grounds of the castle are also home to around 800 cherry trees, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot when the flowers are in bloom.
Day 07 (Sun, 30 Mar’25)
Saga – Fukuoka

See how shiitake mushrooms are grown on a visit to Hiyoriko this morning. A shiitake specialty shop which has been growing and selling dried shiitake and shiitake products for decades, the mushrooms produced here are flavourful and of high quality. Learn a bit more about this multi-faceted ingredient and buy some shiitake to bring home. You will also get to enjoy a delicious and nutritious meal made using their homegrown shiitake at their onsite restaurant.
The Akizuki Castle Ruins are the remains of a castle rebuilt in 1623 according to the dying wishes of then feudal lord, Kuroda Nagamasa. The Kuromon front gate and Nagayamon rear gate of the castle are the most noteworthy structures and have been declared Tangible Cultural Properties of Fukuoka. In spring, cherry blossoms burst forth around the ruins, with a 500m tunnel of cherry trees lining its approach.

Sprawling out over 150,000 square metres at the base of Mt Mifune, Mifuneyama Rakuen is a picturesque garden sculpted over three years by former ruler of Takeo, Shigeyoshi Nabeshima. The mountain, trees, flowers, pond and tea houses all come together beautifully, like a scene from a Chinese painting, accentuated by clouds of cherry blossoms in spring.
Pay a visit to the ‘Village of Secret Kilns’, Okawachiyama Village, next. Known as the birthplace of porcelain in Japan, this small mountain village was once highly guarded to protect the secrets of porcelain production. Nowadays, it is a picturesque village decorated with porcelain where ceramic shops and kilns still abound.
