Day 01 (Mon, 08 Jun’20)
Singapore – Fukuoka – Beppu
(-/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Beppu Suginoi Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
(Car pick-up at Fukuoka Airport)
The first stop for the tour will be at one of Fukuoka’s must-visit sites, Dazaifu Shrine. One of the most important Tenmangu shrines, it is dedicated to scholar Sugaware Michizane, associated with the Shinto deity of education, making it particularly popular among students praying for academic success. Regular visitors can also enjoy the beautiful shrine grounds and shopping street leading up to it.
One of the new three best views of Japan, Shin Yabakei Gorge was formed by the flow of the Yamakuni river over 2.5 million years ago. From Hitome Hakkai, eight different landscapes can be seen, making it the best viewing spot in the gorge. In summer, the verdant green of surrounding foilage provide a stunning contrast against the brown and grey cliffs and rock formations, accentuating the gorgeous scenery.
Day 02 (Tue, 09 Jun’20)
Beppu
(Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Beppu Suginoi Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
Japan’s hot springs are well known for soaking in, but the Hells of Beppu are more of a visual treat rather than a physical one. Each of the seven hells contains a different kind of hot spring, from cobalt blue water, to bubbling mud pools, to blood red ponds. While you cannot bathe at these ‘hells’, they certainly make interesting sights!
Get another view of Beppu by going 800 metres above ground on the Beppu Ropeway. Here, high up on Mt Tsurumi, you will be able to see panoramic views of Beppu with its steaming hot springs on a clear day.
Head to the quaint town of Yufuin to stroll about its picturesque streets. With many intimate cafes, boutiques and small museums, it’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Round off your walk by stopping at Lake Kirinko, next to Mt. Yufu, at the end of the main walking path.
Day 03 (Wed, 10 Jun’20)
Beppu – Aso
(Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Hotel Greenpia Minami Aso (Hot Spring) or similar
Not for the faint-hearted, Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge is one of the longest and tallest pedestrian suspension bridges in Japan. Spanning 390m across a mountain valley and towering at 777m in height, fantastic views of beautiful waterfalls, great forests, mountain ranges and a deep valley can be had from here.
Drive up to Mt Nakadake, one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. Located on Mt Aso, the steaming emerald crater lake and smell of sulphur in the air is sure to leave an impression of the volcano on your senses!
Day 04 (Thu, 11 Jun’20)
Aso – Nagasaki
(Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Luke Plaza Hotel Nagasaki or similar
After taking the car ferry to Nagasaki, you will first stretch your legs at the Nita Pass. Located between Mount Myoken and Mount No – which are famous for their springtime azaleas, green colours in the summer, coloured leaves in the autumn, and frosty fog in the winter – you can enjoy the cable-car ride up to the top for breathtaking views. A brand new trekking path allows hikers to enjoy the mountain flowers and wild birds, as well as stunning close-up views of Heisei Shinzan, the peak newly-formed by the 1990s Fugendake eruption.
Day 05 (Fri, 12 Jun’20)
Nagasaki
D: (Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Luke Plaza Hotel Nagasaki or similar
Home to 180 adorable penguins, the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium is the place to go for your dose of cuteness! Visitors can see, touch and feed the penguins and learn all about their way of life. Within the museum grounds is also a biotope where you can observe plants and animals that live in Nagasaki’s countryside.
At Glover Garden, former residences of Western merchants who settled in Nagasaki can be seen, including the Former Glover House, the oldest Western-style wooden building in Japan. The open-air museum is complemented by attractive gardens with cobblestone paths and wall fountains fitting for the houses they surround.
The city of Nagasaki has a history of exposure to foreign cultures due to its proximity to the Asian mainland and also as one of the few ports open for foreign trade during Japan’s period of isolation. This morning you will visit the Nagasaki Peace Park which commemorates the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The 9.7m Peace Statue in the park bears a solemn memory of a heart-rending page of Japan’s history.
Day 06 (Sat, 13 Jun’20)
Nagasaki – Takeo
(Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: Yumotoso Toyokan (Hot Spring) or similar
Take an exhilarating drive while viewing the sea and feeling the wind, first up for today at the Shin Saikai Bridge. The area near the bridge has been developed as New Saikai Bridge Park, and you can view large whirlpools directly under the bridge that are said to be one of the largest in Japan.
Up next, you can take an outstanding 180-degree view of Kujukushima Islands at Tenkaiho. To add to the wonderful scenery, the garden below the observatory is usually filled with seasonal flowers.
Get up close to the islands dotting the Kujukushima Bay on the Kujukushima Cruise. Although its name means “99 islands”, there are in fact around 208 islands in the bay. Nonetheless, the various formations and rock patterns of the islands provide scenic views as you meander round them on a stylish cruise boat.
