Day 02 (Sat, 05 Oct'24)

Haneda – Toyama

Taking a flight to Toyama this morning, begin your tour with a visit to the Toyama Glass Art Museum. Housed in a building that is itself a work of art by architect, Kuma Kengo, the museum showcases contemporary glass art pieces by artists from around the world. Located in the same building as the central public library, there are ample spaces for quiet admiration of the art pieces and even a glass art garden featuring works by glass art master, Dale Chihuly.

Day 03 (Sun, 06 Oct'24)

Toyama

Today you will travel through the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, a scenic route that traverses Mt Tateyama, Mt Akazawadake, and Kurobe gorge. It is crossed using a variety of transportation, including one of the few trolley busses remaining in Japan, an underground cable car, and Japan’s only unsupported ropeway. One of the earlier places to see autumn foliage, you can admire the views of the mountain brimming with vibrant colours in this season as you make your way through the Alpine Route from Murodo to Ogizawa.

Day 04 (Mon, 07 Oct'24)

Toyama

Head to Kurobe Gorge to see the spectacular views at one of the deepest gorges in the country, flanked by primeval forests and dotted with hot springs. One of Japan’s Special Scenic Spots and Special Scenic National Treasures, take a leisurely ride on the Torokko electric train, a sightseeing train that brings you along the valley, across bridges and through the picturesque scenery of the gorge.

Bring the scent of nature home with you as you create your own original blend in an aroma spray-making experience afterwards. Using naturally extracted essential oils from trees, plants, and flowers grown in Toyama, make a scent to remind you of the healing nature you have experienced here to enjoy at home.

Day 05 (Tue, 08 Oct'24)

Toyama – Shogawa Onsen

Create your very own glasswork today in a glassmaking experience at the Toyama Glass Studio. An area known for its glassmaking since Japan’s industrial revolution, Toyama has since evolved into a creative centre for glass art. See and learn how glassworks are made at the studio, and get a hands-on experience crafting your own glass ornament.

Continue your creative expression in the afternoon with a copperware colouring experience at Momentum Factory Orii. Located in the historical craftsmanship town of Takaoka, the Orii family is credited for developing unique copperware colouring processes which were previously thought impossible to achieve. Get a first-hand experience with these exceptional techniques as you create your own original coloured copperware here.

Day 06 (Wed, 09 Oct'24)

Shogawa Onsen

Take a scenic ride through the abundant natural scenery of the Shogawa gorge on the Shogawa River Cruise this morning. Once used to transport timber from the mountainous Gokayama and Hida regions, the cruise now takes visitors along the picturesque route between Komaki dam, Japan’s first high river dam, to Omaki Onsen, a secluded hot spring inn accessible only by boat.

Later, pay a visit to the only whiskey distillery in the Hokuriku region, Wakatsuru Saburomaru Distillery. Originating from a sake and shochu brewery in 1952, the distillery produces limited amounts of malt whiskey made using rich water originating from the surrounding mountains. Take a tour of the distillery and experience whiskey with all your senses.

Next, pay a visit to Nousaku, a manufacturer of metal cast products such as tableware, Buddhist ritual objects and other decorative items. Using superior casting techniques, some of which are self-developed, a large variety of quality tin, brass and bronze products can be found here. Try your hand at a metal-casting experience and create your very own lasting souvenir.

Day 07 (Thu, 10 Oct'24)

Shogawa Onsen – Nanto – Takayama

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gokayama is a cluster of gassho-zukuri farmhouses amidst the mountains of Nanto. Formerly a valuable area where explosives were produced, it is now known for its large farmhouses, rich heritage, and traditional culture of folk dances and music, using instruments native to the area. Visit some of the villages here and soak in the peaceful countryside atmosphere and picturesque views.

Follow that with our specially organised Nanto Activity. Nestled deep in the mountains of the Japan Alps, this was the birthplace of Japan’s oldest folk song, Kokiriko bushi. Soulful singing is accompanied by music and dance that are both unique to the area. Feel the heart of the locals as you delve into their local culture with them.

Day 08 (Fri, 11 Oct'24)

Takayama – Kamikochi – Takayama

The crown jewel of the Japan Alps, Kamikochi is one of Japan’s most scenic places and where you will be heading today. A basin located 1,500m above sea level and surrounded by the Japan Alps rising another 1,500m around it, the scenery here is stunningly beautiful and perfect for an escape into nature. Roughly 15km of hiking trails follow the Azusa River with mostly flat terrain, making it a pleasant walk to enjoy the marvellous scenery of aquamarine river backed by the towering Alps and lush foliage. Take a walk along part of the trails and bask in the beauty and serenity of nature here.

Day 09 (Sat, 12 Oct'24)

Takayama – Nagoya

Formed from the eruption of Mt Ontake some 54,000 years ago, the Hida Osaka Falls is an area with some of the most waterfalls in Japan. Over 216 waterfalls with heights over 5m are dotted along trails within the ‘Forest of Water’ and can be enjoyed with magnificent columnar and platy joint rock formations and rich forests. Take a trek to visit some of the waterfalls this morning and bask in nature here.

Dive into the world of flowers at the Gifu World Rose Garden, one of the largest rose gardens in the world with over 6,000 rose varieties and many other flowers growing in this sprawling facility. Admire the autumn roses which are coming into bloom at this time along with seasonal flowers like salvia and chrysanthemums, and panoramic views of the garden and its surroundings from the 45m high Flower Tower.

Have a free and easy day in Nagoya City to enjoy shopping and eating in the fourth largest city in Japan. Go shopping at the many department stores around Nagoya Station and Sakae, Nagoya’s most well-known shopping district filled with both brand name stores and shopping arcades. Try some of Nagoya's specialty dishes like tebasaki, miso katsu, or hitsumabushi for a local dinner.
