On this first day of arrival in Hokkaido, we are going to take things a little easy! Our first stop is a local shopping mall for you to get any items that you may need before we proceed to a tasty barbecue lunch at a popular wagyu beef restaurant. This is the perfect meal for a cold, winter day! After lunch, we will stop by Lake Shikotsu, an oligotrophic lake that does not freeze for most winters! After which, we proceed to Lake Toya to check into the hotel.
With a panoramic view of Lake Toya, the Lake View TOYA Nonokaze Resort makes for a most enjoyable stay! From the main bath on the top floor, you can get brilliant views of the lake. With the hotel so excellently situated, take the opportunity to have a stroll along the lake. In addition, enjoy a wonderful dinner made from a variety of local ingredients.

The Marine Park Nixe, modelled after Denmark's Egeskov Castle, is home to about 20,000 living things across 400 different species. You can marvel at the dolphins, sea lions and fur seals performing a variety of tricks, penguins on their daily walk and the sight of 10,000 sardines swimming in the tank with wide open mouths at feeding time!
Step back in time at the Noboribetsu Jidaimura, where there are many traditional Japanese buildings with diorama depicting life in the Edo period. To add to the realism, staff are similarly attired in clothes from that era. When you get hungry, there is a street market with themed souvenir and gift stalls, boutiques and restaurants. With its bewildering optical illusions, challenge yourself and see how quickly you can find your way out of the Ninja maze! Edo Wonderland is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon of entertainment for the whole family!

Lake Toya – Rusutsu

After checking-out of the hotel, we will head to Lake Hill Farm, a very popular gelato shop serving ice cream and dairy products. You’ll have a hard time deciding on flavours as everything looks equally tempting! The ice cream menu is dependant on the season, though there is usually about 18 or more flavours available. Thereafter, we will proceed to Fukidashi Park, a spring water source set in a beautiful park where an impressive 80,000 tons of fresh spring water gushes out from the base of Mount Yotei every day! Lunch will be in a local restaurant nearby before we continue to Rusutsu for hotel check-in. After check-in, you can test-fit your ski rental and explore all that the huge resort has to offer.
Day 04 to 06

Rusutsu Resort has something for everyone! Inside the hotel, you can enjoy the hot water wave pool with water slide, spa area or go for a free ride on the merry-go-round. The vast array of indoor activities includes handicraft workshops such as leather-working and glass fusing. Just outside the resort is a snow park (usually opens in mid-December) for young children with playground equipment and a magic carpet for tubing and sledding. For something a little more energetic, go for a snowmobile touring course, a snowmobile powered snow raft or dog sledding experience.
Rusutsu's spectacular scenery and long, wide-groomed runs on undulating slopes are some of the best in the world. Skiing directly above the resort is available on West Mountain, while the majority of terrain is spread across the gondola-linked East Mountain and its lift-linked, Mount Isola, with over 42km of runs. With 30 per cent of its terrain suitable for beginners, 40 per cent for intermediates and 30 per cent for advances, skiers of all levels will find a course of their own in Hokkaido’s famed powder snow.

First destination for today is the charming town of Otaru with its beautifully preserved old warehouses and former office buildings that give Otaru its unique character. Housed in these historic buildings are music box museums, intricate glassware shops and of course, cafes serving Hokkaido’s famed cream puffs, and sweet shops. We will have free time to spend here before heading into Sapporo to visit the Ishiya Chocolate Factory. The whimsical design of the factory grounds is bound to capture your imagination and sense of fun with a garden that comes to life and trash cans that burst into song at the hour mark. Inside the building, candies in cheerful colours of the rainbow at Candy Labo and sweets, cookies, chocolates and cakes of all kinds imaginable can be found.
Sapporo in winter is like a three-dimensional Christmas card with snow blanketing its famous sights. In your free time after dinner, you may want to walk over to Odori Park where the Sapporo White Illumination and German Christmas Market are held. Here, you will find the TV Tower, trees and building structures all adorned with colourful light bulbs. The lights are powered with renewable energy, including recycled cooking oil and solar panels specially designed to produce power even in the heaviest snow season.
