Arriving in Toyama today, make a stop at The Suiboku Museum, Toyama, an art gallery dedicated to Japanese ink paintings. Exhibiting works from well-known artists along with other art pieces like dyed textiles and ceramics, you can learn all about modern ink paintings and immerse in Japanese culture here.
In the evening, take a stroll at Toyama Castle Park. Formerly a home of the ruling Maeda clan, the reconstructed castle keep stands in a large park consisting of a beautiful garden and walking trails from which visitors can admire the cherry blossoms which fill the park in spring. When night falls, the grounds are illuminated to provide a surreal night time cherry blossom viewing experience.
Along the Matsukawa River right next to Toyama Castle roughly 500 cherry trees line both sides of the riverbank, making it one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots. Running a length of about 3km, the blooming flowers can be enjoyed both on foot and on boat rides down the river.

This morning, admire the artworks at the Toyama Glass Art Museum. Housed in a building that is itself a work of art by architect, Kuma Kengo, the museum showcases contemporary glass art pieces by artists from around the world. Located in the same building as the central public library, there are ample spaces for quiet admiration of the art pieces and even a glass art garden featuring works by glass art master, Dale Chihuly.
Later, travel out to Takaoka Castle Park, the former site of Takaoka castle. All that remains of this demolished castle is its moat and some stone walls, but the park continues to be a popular spot for locals, especially during cherry blossom season. Around 1,800 cherry trees of 18 varieties stand in this park and are especially beautiful when reflected in the water of the moat.
Afterwards, take in the scenic views at the Amaharashi Coast which borders one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Toyama Bay. On a clear day, you can see a stunning view of Onnaiwa, a lone rock with a tree on it, sitting in the blue bay against a stunning backdrop of the Tateyama mountain range.
The more adventurous may also choose to travel further out to the port town of Nanao. Grill some fresh seafood at the Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch, don a traditional bridal kimono at the Hanayome Noren Museum, and take a stroll under the cherry blossoms at the local Komaruyama Park.

Pay a visit to Nousaku, a manufacturer of metal cast products such as tableware, Buddhist ritual objects and other decorative items. Using superior casting techniques, some of which are self-developed, a large variety of quality tin, brass and bronze products can be found here. The stylish tableware, accessories and other decorative items will make beautiful and lasting souvenirs.
Journey out to Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for gassho-zukuri farmhouses, some of which are hundreds of years old. The thatched gassho-style roofs, designed to withstand heavy snowfall, are constructed entirely without the use of nails and are architectural marvels.
Travel on to the Higashi Chaya District. Chaya, or teahouses, are where geisha have been entertaining guests with music and dancing since the Edo period. Many of these immaculately preserved traditional wooden houses have been converted into cafes and shops selling local specialities such as tea, gold leaf products and Japanese sweets, but a few remain as geisha houses, providing a brief glimpse into their lives.

You will have a very special cooking class today, beginning with procuring ingredients at the “Kitchen of Kanazawa”, Omicho Market. The go-to market in Kanazawa for almost 300 years, 186 stalls selling fresh and cooked food fill the market with fresh seasonal seafood and produce. Learn how to choose the best ingredients before heading to the kitchen where you will whip up a delicious Japanese meal for lunch!
Head over to the icon of Kanazawa, Kenrokuen, one of Japan’s three most beautiful gardens. Gorgeous in every season, this sprawling hill-top garden contains all the features of a traditional Japanese garden and is very pleasant to stroll around. In spring, blooming cherry blossoms fill the garden, making it one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom spots which can be enjoyed in the daytime, or illuminated at night.
Make a stop at Kanazawa Castle Park right next to Kenrokuen too. Besides the reconstructed castle buildings, gates and gardens, the large castle grounds are also home to hundreds of cherry blossom trees which frame the castle structures beautifully when in full bloom.

Drop by the Kutani Ceramic Art Village where you can find Ishikawa’s signature Kutaniyaki porcelainware. A collections of museums and workshops dedicated to this traditional craft, you can learn all about the unique five-coloured Kutaniyaki, admire exquisite Kutaniyaki masterpieces, and purchase quality ceramics to bring home with you.
Take a stroll through nature at Kakusenkei Gorge after lunch. The gorge has 3 unique bridges spanning its breadth, each providing its own gorgeous view. Walk down the tranquil path along the river and soak in the beauty of nature here.
Day 06 (Sun, 06 Apr’25)

Jagged basalt cliffs bordering the sea, carved over time by wind and waves, are the hallmark of Tojinbo. These unique rock formations can only be seen in three places in the world and paint a breath-taking picture when juxtaposed against the choppy sea. Take one of the trails to explore the cliffs and the different views it offers.
Make a stop to admire the Asuwa River cherry blossoms, one of the 100 top cherry blossom spots in Japan. With around 600 cherry trees lining the river in the centre of the city, a roughly 2km long pink tunnel emerges when the flowers are in bloom, making it a popular place for locals to leisurely enjoy the flowers.
Visit the Megane Museum and learn the history and process required to manufacture a pair of glasses. Located in Sabae, where titanium spectacle frames originated and Google glasses frames are produced, the museum showcases why the area is one of the leading spectacle producers in the world. Bespectacled visitors can take the chance to purchase a pair of quality frames too.
Later, pay a visit to the Fukui Dinosaur Museum, one of the best dinosaur museums in the world and the biggest in Japan. Full dinosaur skeletons, fossils and many other exhibits are on display, including a large animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Get crafty at Yunokuni no Mori, a collection of workshops showcasing traditional Japanese crafts set in a peaceful forest dotted with photogenic installations. This is where you can find all of Ishikawa’s traditional crafts from lacquerware to pottery and gold leaf, and get hands on with craft experiences.
End your trip with a shopping spree at AEON Mall Shinkomatsu before flying home this afternoon. The largest shopping mall in the Hokuriku region, this mall carries many popular Japanese brands, as well as some international ones, and is a great place to get your shopping fix.
