Arriving in Fukuoka this morning, stop by at one of its most famous sites, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. One of the most important Tenmangu shrines in Japan, it is dedicated to scholar Sugaware Michizane, associated with the Shinto deity of education, making it particularly popular among students praying for
academic success. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful shrine grounds and the bustling shopping street leading up to it.
Travelling over to Yamaguchi after lunch, retire to your accommodation at Otani Sanso in the evening where the soothing waters of your in-room private hot spring await. This morning, experience a beautiful aspect of traditional Japanese culture as you put on the traditional Japanese dress in a kimono wearing experience. Elegant and often exquisitely designed, the kimono consists of many layers which requires skilled hands to put on. Transform into a Japanese beauty and capture memories against fitting backdrops of Japanese gardens, traditional houses, and the preserved townscapes of Yamaguchi on a rickshaw ride through the town.
Travel over to Hiroshima and take a ferry to the sacred island of Miyajima where you will stay at Itsukushima Iroha for the night. Looking out over one of Japan’s three most scenic views on one side and the lush mountains on the other, lounge in comfort in stylish rooms which combine modern artistry with Japanese elements and feast on flavourful seasonal cuisine. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the island after hours, an experience which only comes to those who spend the night here.

Tour the sights of Miyajima this morning, home to one of Japan’s most photographed icons and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Itsukushima Shrine. The bright vermillion shrine complex and its massive torii gate seem to float on water at high tide, creating a magical sight considered to be among Japan’s top three scenic views. Take an in-depth tour of the shrine with a local expert on a special Miyajima Activity and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for this revered shrine.

Move on to Takehara Town, a port town located along the Seto Inland Sea known as the ‘little Kyoto of Hiroshima’. Now a Preservation District of Important Historical Buildings, the well-preserved townscape of merchant houses and residences adorned with unique Takehara Lattice takes visitors on a step back in time. Join in a specially arranged Takehara Activity where you will be introduced to the highlights of the town by an established local sake brewer and get a behind-the-scenes look at his historical and award-winning sake brewery.

Do some strawberry picking this morning and savour the fruit which is in season now. Pick and eat your fill of sweet, juicy strawberries at their freshest, right off the vine.
Head over to Kurashiki next, a town reminiscent of a bygone era. A former rice distribution centre, Kurashiki, literally ‘town of storehouses’, was centred around a system of canals with storehouses and merchant houses on either side. The Edo period storehouses have now been converted into museums, boutiques and cafes, while the willow tree-lined canal and stone bridges make the area extremely picturesque. Spend some free time exploring the many converted storehouses of the Bikan Historical Quarter, take a leisurely boat ride along the canal, or visit nearby museums such as the oldest Western art museum in Japan, Ohara Museum.
Day 05 (Tue, 12 Mar'24)
Onomichi – Seto Inland Sea

As part of your cruise, you will take an excursion out to the art island of Naoshima this morning. Renowned for its many art museums, sculptures and installations, Naoshima is a mecca for contemporary art-lovers where nature, history and art combine. Take a private tour of the specially reserved Chichu Art Museum, a contemporary art museum built into a hillside, which experience of artworks are dependent on the natural conditions of the day.
Lavish in more relaxation on board guntû as you make full use of its facilities. Lounge on the engawa, a Japanese veranda, as you contemplate the passing scenery, partake in wagashi sweets and tea made fresh before you in the Lounge, and soak in rejuvenating cypress baths looking out over the tranquil sea.
