Day 02
Kansai – Naruto

Begin your journey with beautiful flowers at Awaji Hanasajiki, a flower park with blooms in all seasons. In autumn, the vast flower fields are filled with cheerful pink and white cosmos. Enjoy the spread of flowers along with the panoramic view of the Osaka Bay laid out before you.
Moving on to view some manmade works, enjoy some of the world’s greatest artworks all in one place at the Otsuka Museum of Art. This unique museum houses replicas of many representative works of art from masters such as Michelangelo, Monet, Picasso and more.
Day 03
Naruto

Visit one of nature’s wonders this morning at the Naruto Whirlpools. Created by the flow of water between the Seto Inland Sea and Pacific Ocean during the changing of the tides, the whirlpools make their appearance only a few times a day. Arguably the best way to view this natural phenomenon, take a sightseeing boat that goes right next to the whirlpools and see this wonder up close.
Having seen the whirlpools from below, it’s time to see them from above at Uzu no Michi. This unique walkway runs underneath the Onaruto bridge which is directly above the whirlpools. Glass panels in the floor of the walkways allows you to look down onto the whirlpools from 45 metres above.
Day 04
Naruto – Kobe – Arashiyama

Coffee lovers will enjoy a visit to the UCC Coffee Museum this morning. Learn all about the history and culture of coffee, and see the roasting and extraction process as you walk through the factory of one of Japan’s leading coffee manufacturers.
One of the most popular autumn activities in Arashiyama is taking a ride on the scenic Torokko Train. This retro-fitted steam train winds its way leisurely through a forested ravine along the Hozugawa river, allowing passengers to fully enjoy the natural scenery and gorgeous autumn colours that paint the surroundings.
Day 05
Arashiyama – Kyoto – Arashiyama

Admire the beautiful autumn colours against the backdrop of some of Kyoto’s many temples today. First, head to Nanzenji Temple, one of the most important Zen temples in Japan. The large temple grounds contain many sub temples and structures, along with multiple gardens and ponds, creating a pleasant environment for enjoying the autumn leaves.
Nearby, Eikando Temple offers more autumn scenes with its beautiful pond garden, streams and connected complexes. It is also home to the Tahoto Pagoda, a two-storey pagoda on the hillside from which a wide view of the coloured trees in the temple grounds can be seen.
Taking a break from the temples, drop by Nishiki Market, the ‘Kitchen of Kyoto’. Started as a fish market in 1615, most of the 100 shops have been here for generations. Sample the seasonal food offerings of Kyoto and feel the warmth and liveliness of the locals.
Finally, visit Kodaiji Temple, built in honour of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who is enshrined here. The elaborately decorated buildings are surrounded by Zen gardens, including a rock garden and bamboo grove.
Day 06
Arashiyama – Uji – Nara

You might recognise this place from the back of the 10-yen coin, the Phoenix Hall of Byodoin Temple, is a spectacular building with two phoenix statues on its roof. The brilliant red hall itself is said to resemble a phoenix and is a magnificent sight.
Take part in a tea ceremony today and understand a little more about Japanese culture. Be mesmerised by the beautiful and intricate steps of making tea and get the full experience of Japanese tea appreciation.
Stop by Todaiji Temple, one of Japan’s most famous and historically significant temples. Its impressive main hall is the world’s largest wooden building and houses one of Japan’s largest bronze buddhas at 15m tall. A popular attraction of the temple is a hole in one of the pillars the same size as Buddha’s nostril. It is said that anyone who can squeeze through the hole will gain enlightenment in the next life.
Day 07
Nara – Iga – Matsusaka – Mie

Enter the world of ninjas at the Ninja Museum of Igaryu. As one of two places in Japan where ninjutsu originated, you can see authentic ninja weaponry, a ninja house full of tricks and traps, and demonstrations of ninja skills at this interesting museum.
Later, visit Matsusaka Castle, a prefectural historical site in Mie. Although the castle keep was destroyed many years ago, the remaining magnificent stone walls are a testament of its former glory. Now a peaceful park, the bright yellow of ginko leaves and other trees cover the park in autumn.
Day 08
Mie

Two of Japan’s treasures can be found at Mikimoto Pearl Island – Mikimoto pearls and Ama divers. The world’s first successfully cultured pearls were created here in 1893 by Kokichi Mikimoto who established Pearl Island. Aiding in the cultivation process, you can watch Ama free divers demonstrate their traditional method of diving for pearls here.
In the afternoon, visit Ise Grand Shrine, the most important shrine in Japan. Consisting of an inner and outer shrine, the grand shrine is a popular attraction for both pilgrims and tourists. Along the approach to the inner shrine is Okage Yokocho, a charming street preserving the style and atmosphere of the Edo period, where shops selling local crafts and produce can be found.
Day 09
Mie – Nagoya

Constructed in 1612 by the ruling Tokugawa family, Nagoya castle today contains an informative museum with exhibits of artefacts handed down as Important Cultural Assets. See the Kinshachi, golden dolphins iconic to the castle, and stroll around the castle grounds, especially beautiful covered in autumn leaves.
Enjoy some free and easy time in Nagoya City, the fourth largest city in Japan. Go shopping at the many department stores around Nagoya Station, or head to Sakae, Nagoya’s most well-known shopping district filled with both brand name stores and shopping arcades.
