The seaside town of Kamakura is a great first stop for your journey. Formerly the centre of Japan's government, numerous temples, shrines and historical sites are located here, including the famous Great Buddha. The 11.4m high bronze statue of Amida Buddha is the second tallest in Japan and has been kept intact since its construction in the mid-13th century, outlasting its surrounding building.

Known as the "spring of the gods", Oshino Hakkai is a set of eight springs fed by snow melt from Mt Fuji. Spring water is filtered down through layers of soil for 80 years, resulting in crystal clear water that is one of the top 100 spring waters in Japan. The cold water is available for drinking at the source, and also fills deceptively deep ponds of freshwater plants and fish.
Enter the enchanting world of Fuji Kachoen Garden Park, a flower garden and bird sanctuary. See beautiful flowers all year-round including fuchsias, unique hydrangeas, and even a Mt Fuji replica made from begonias! Not forgetting our feathered friends, get up close and interact with penguins, emus, flamingos and up to 30 species of owls.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Japan's New Three Views, stop by at Miho no Matsubara. The black sand on the seashore here contrasts against the green pine trees and blue sea, creating a picture-perfect scene with a fabulous view of Mt Fuji and the Izu Peninsula across the bay.

Make a stop at the Numazu Fish Market this morning. Equipped with a passage for visitors above the auction floor, an observatory deck from which to take in the views of Mt Fuji and the sea, and restaurants, enjoy the freshest seafood inside the market and bring back some souvenirs.
At 400 metres, the Mishima Skywalk is the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Japan. From here you can see Japan's highest peak, Mt Fuji, and Japan's deepest bay, Suruga Bay, along with nature views spreading as far as the eye can see.
Go strawberry picking at Izu Fruit Park today! Pick and eat all the plump, sweet strawberries you want straight from the plants as you stroll through the greenhouse! Stop by at the shop afterwards to pick up some fresh fruits, fruit desserts and jams as souvenirs.
An ancient Buddhist temple founded in 807 by Kobo Daishi, a prominent Buddhist teacher, Shuzenji Temple is one of Japan's important cultural properties. As the setting of the rise and fall of the Minamoto clan, the beautiful temple is rich is history and has been awarded 2 stars in the Michelin Green Guide.
Day 05 (Mon, 20 Feb'23)

Shaped like an upside-down bowl, Mt Omuro is an extinct volcano covered in mountain grass with a 300-metre-wide crater. Take a chair lift up the mountain to stroll round the crater and be treated tp 360-degree panoramic views of the surroundings which include Mr Fuji, Hakone and the seven islands of Izu.
The spectacularly rugged Jogasaki Coast was formed by the eruption of Mt Omuro over 4,000 years ago and worn down by the ceaseless battle between the rocks and the Pacific Ocean. Walk down the coastal trail along which you will come across the scenic Kadowaki Suspension Bridge hanging 23m above a gorge in the cliffs.
Get ready for the highlight of your trip: the Kawazu Sakura Festival. Kawazuzakura is an early flowering variety of cherry tree that starts opening around early February but does so at a relatively slow pace. Over 2 million people come to Minami Izu in search of this deep pink blossom seen on more than 8,000 trees stretching for over 4km along the river!

The beautiful Lake Ashi with Mt Fuji in the background is probably the scene most people think of when Hakone comes to mind. Some of the best views here can be had by taking the Lake Ashi Cruise out onto the iconic lake where you can be surrounded by the spectacular mountain, water and forests of Hakone.
Afterwards, the the Hakone ropeway up to Owakudani, a crater formed from the eruption of Mt Hakone around 3,000 years ago. See the sulphurous fumes, hot springs and rivers on the mountain and admire the splendid view of Mt Fuji from here.
The Hakone Open Air Museum is an art lover's paradise with unique art pieces spread across 70,000 square metres of open space. Art pieces combine beautifully with the surrounding trees, mountains and valley to create a harmonious balance with nature. The museum includes a massive multicoloured spiral tower you can climb, multiple play spaces for children amongst art, and one of the best collections of Picasso's work.
