Start the day at Fukidashi Park and sample the sweet spring water that flows down from Mt. Yotei, Hokkaido’s Mt. Fuji. Nestled at the foot of the mountain, 80,000 tons of water filtered down from the peak gushes out each day. Don’t forget to do as the locals do and bring an empty bottle to collect some of it!
Head to Otaru next and spend the afternoon wandering round its quaint streets. A former major herring centre and the terminal station for Hokkaido’s first railroad, the charming buildings that line the streets now house whimsical music box museums, patisseries selling mouth-watering creations, and intricate glassware ornaments. Otaru is also home to a sushi street where only the freshest seafood makes it to the menu in every sushi restaurant along the row. Dine on fresh and delicious sushi for lunch and have a pleasant afternoon in the town!

For lunch, stop by at the Ramen Republic for a steaming bowl of Hokkaido’s signature miso ramen, or head to one of the many soup curry shops. The sight of the waterfalls thundering down a 90-metre rocky cliff flanked by snow dusted trees and shrubs is an unforgettable sight.
Drop by Biei Senka this afternoon where you can fully enjoy the flavours of Biei! Featuring 4 shops showcasing the area’s produce and food products, you can find fresh seasonal produce and dried or preserved ingredients, indulge in a sweet treat for tea, or savour freshly baked bread from the bakery.

The school’s success did not come easy, having once shut due to a lack of students, but it reopened with a new focus on culinary education and is now one of the most popular schools in Hokkaido and a 2 year consecutive winner of the national high schools cooking competition. Magokoro Kitchen is an extension of the school’s programme where students gain real restaurant experience and hone their skills for the future.
