Begin your trip with a hearty meal of charcoal-grilled wagyu beef at Log House Wagyu Bibi Restaurant before moving on to the Chitose Aquarium nearby. Located right on the Chitose River, an underwater observation room offers a view of wild salmon migrating upstream.

Pay a visit to Farm Tomita and admire its rows of colourful flowers with the ruggedly beautiful Tokachi Mountain Range as a backdrop. Then, head over to the mystical Shirogane Blue Pond where its blue water is juxtaposed against sombre grey trees and lush forests.

Mt Kurodake is one of the earliest places to welcome autumn colours in Japan. Taking the Kurodake Ropeway this morning, you can see the colourful trees covering the mountain and a spectacular view of the gorge below. At Sounkyo Gorge, see the silvery thin rivulets of Ginga and the powerful burst of Ryusei as the characteristic waterfalls thunder 90m down a rocky cliff.
Day 04 (Thu, 06 Oct'22)

Stop by Mt Iou, an active volcano peppered with vents emitting plumes of smoke and sulphur and marvel at its unique barren landscape dotted with yellow. Next, visit one of the clearest lakes in the world, Lake Mashu, and enjoy spectacular views of the clear water and surrounding sheer cliffs that can be seen from the observatory.

Shiretoko

Venture into a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Shiretoko Five Lakes. The lakes were formed by the eruption of Mt. Iou and look whimsically like a god's handprint. Get right into nature by walking round the lakes on an elevated boardwalk used to protect the fragile ecosystems. On your walk, you can enjoy views of the lake, Sea of Okhotsk and surrounding mountains, all covered in autumnal glory.
Day 06 (Sat, 08 Oct'22)
Shiretoko – Shibetsu – Akan

This morning, travel along the 738m high scenic Shiretoko Pass connecting Rausu and Shari. One of the first few places in Japan to see autumn colours, the pass provides splendid views of Mt. Rausu, Shiretoko's highest mountain, and Kunashiri Island along the way. Moving on to Shibetsu Salmon Science Museum, see the largest collection of salmon species in Japan and learn all about this fish which can be seen swimming upstream in the Shibetsu River.
Day 07 (Sun, 09 Oct'22)

Take a sightseeing cruise out onto Lake Akan today and leisurely admire the scenic surrounds. The cruise makes a stop at Churui Island in the middle of the lake, where you can see and learn about the native marimo, moss balls which can only be found in a few lakes around the world.
Day 08 (Mon, 10 Oct'22)
Shiretoko – Ikeda – Tokachi

Known as the five-coloured lake, Lake Onneto was formed by the eruption of Mt. Meakan. Its water changes colour depending on sunlight and temperature, going from a gleaming bottle green to a deep azure through the course of a day.
Next, head to Ikeda Wine Castle, a winery housed in a building resembling an old European castle. See the displays on grape cultivation and wine-making and visit the aging room where barrels and bottles of wine are matured. Of couse, samples of Tokachi wine are available to try too.
This evening, have a relaxing soak in the moor hot spring. Known as the hot spring of beauty, this theraoeutic hot spring water is derived from plant matter and can only be found in two places in the world, in Germany and here in Tokachigawa.

Head to Otaru next and spend some time wandering round its quaint streets. A former major herring centre and the terminal station for Hokkaido’s first railroad, the charming buildings that line the streets now house whimsical music box museums, patisseries selling mouth-watering creations, and intricate glassware ornaments. Also worth checking out is Otaru’s sushi street, where only the freshest seafood makes it to the menu in every sushi restaurant along the row

A free and easy day in Sapporo awaits you! As Japan's fifth largest city, Sapporo has developed rapidly into a bustling metropolis. When you are satisfied with your shopping spree, stop by at the Ramen Republic for a steaming bowl of Hokkaido's signature miso ramen to complete your Hokkaido experience.
