Start your trip right with a delicious meal of barbequed meats at the cosy Log House Wagyu Bibi Restaurant. Feast on juicy, tender wagyu beef and more at this table barbeque restaurant, guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds.
Walk off your meal along the shore of the beautiful Lake Shikotsu. This crater lake formed over 40,000 years ago is one of the deepest and clearest lakes in Japan. Take a glass-bottomed boat cruise on the lake to truly appreciate its natural beauty.
Shop to your heart’s content at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera. Home to over 400 brands ranging from fashion to toys to household products, Hokkaido’s first large scale outlet mall is the perfect place for a shopping spree.
Day 02
Tomakomai – Sounkyo

Ice cream lovers should not miss out on Kacha Ice Cream & Restaurant. Ice cream here is homemade using ingredients and dairy from the attached farm, ensuring quality and freshness.
Frolic round flower-filled Farm Tomita, known for its ‘rainbow fields’ of flowers. Many different varieties of flowers are in bloom this season and are particularly beautiful when viewed together with the surrounding mountains and wide, open landscapes.
More often seen in pictures, you can see the real Shirogane Blue Pond for yourself today. The azure blue of the water is caused by its mineral composition and makes a fascinating sight juxtaposed against the sombre grey trees.
Pay a visit to Hokkaido’s highest mountain at 2,291m, Mt. Asahidake. Take the Asahidake Ropeway up the mountain for breath-taking views of the volcanic Ishikari mountain range and surrounding greenery.
Day 03
Sounkyo – Ikutahara Onsen

The twin waterfalls of Ginga & Ryusei, found within Sounkyo Gorge, are among the best 100 waterfalls in Japan. Often referred to as husband-and-wife falls, the silvery thin rivulets of Ginga and powerful burst of Ryusei give character to each of the falls.
The North Fox Farm is exactly that – an enclave of free-roaming foxes. The farm houses around 60 animals in total, including the rare silver fox, aside from the usual Hokkaido red foxes. Get up close to these adorable animals and don’t forget your camera!
Be transported back to your childhood as you visit Chacha World – Museum of Worldwide Wooden Toys. All manner of wooden toys are available for viewing and playing with here. Another feature of this unique museum is the “Shadow Gallery” showcasing incredible shadow murals that you have to see for yourself.
Day 04
Ikutahara Onsen – Abashiri

Tucked away in East Hokkaido’s Monbetsu is Engaru – the hometown of Aikido, one of Japan’s most famous martial arts. Today you will discover there is more beneath this charming town. Day 05
Abashiri – Shiretoko

Bihoro Pass is a viewing spot located on the western side of Lake Kussharo. From the 525m high observatory, you can take in impressive panoramic views of Lake Kussharo and its islands below.
Mt Iou is an active volcano peppered with vents emitting plumes of smoke and sulphur. The yellow sulphur dotting the barren landscape of the mountain give it a unique appearance.
One of the clearest lakes in the world, Lake Mashu is known as “Kamuy-tou” in the Ainu language, meaning “Lake of the Gods”. This name comes as no surprise given the spectacular views of the clear water and surrounding sheer cliffs that can be seen from the observatory.
Visit the Shiretoko Nature Center to learn all about the Shiretoko National Park. Take the trail from the centre down to Furepe Waterfall, a waterfall fed by ground water that crashes into the Sea of Okhotsk below.
Day 06
Shiretoko – Akan

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Shiretoko Five Lakes look whimsically like a god’s handprint and can be visited via an elevated boardwalk to protect the fragile ecosystems. From here, you can enjoy views of the lake, Sea of Okhotsk and surrounding mountains.
As you leave the lakes, drive along the Shiretoko Pass, one of the top three scenic driving routes in Japan. This 738m high pass connects Rausu and Shari and provides splendid views of Mt. Rausu, Shiretoko’s highest mountain, and Kunashiri Island along the way.
Another great view point is Kaiyodai Observatory. From here, the roundness of the earth can be felt as you look out onto the horizon of farmland and forests from an altitude of 270m.
Get more sights of sprawling grasslands against blue skies at 900 Sogen Grassland, a municipal ranch where around 2,000 cows are bred on 930ha of land. Enjoy the openness of the farmland as you watch peacefully grazing cows.
Day 07
Akan – Tokachi

Also known as the five-coloured lake, Lake Onneto was formed by the eruption of Mt. Meakan. Its water changes colour depending on sunlight and temperature, going from a gleaming bottle green to a deep azure.

Get up close to Hokkaido’s large brown bears at Sahoro Bear Mountain. Visitors can watch the bears roaming freely in the forest and view them from various trails, a bear point, and even a bear watching bus.
Over at the Furano Jam Factory, over 35 different kinds of jam are made from just about every fruit and vegetable in the area. Sample the different jams and buy your favourite flavours home!
A lovely café located atop a hill, Furano Delice serves up decadent desserts made with locally-produced Furano milk and Hokkaido cheese. Their signature cheesecake and creamy custard pudding are not to be missed!
Day 09
Sapporo

This morning, visit the Sapporo Curb Market, a collection of nearly 80 stores outside Sapporo’s central wholesale market. Specialising in seafood, and you can get some of the freshest ones here.
Take a trip out to Otaru, famous for its sushi street, charming buildings, whimsical music box museums and delectable desserts. Spend some time exploring the historical streets of Hokkaido’s former major herring centre and terminal station for Hokkaido’s first railroad.
In Sapporo City, you will not be disappointed by the variety of shopping and dining options available. From Daimaru and Esta to Tokyu Hands and Tanukikoji, there is no end to shopping here. Hit up the Ramen Republic tonight for miso ramen, or have a meal of soup curry to complete your Hokkaido experience!
