Day 01
Chitose – Tokachigawa Onsen
(Coach: -/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Tokachigawa Onsen Daiichi Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
We will begin today with a spot of shopping over at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera, Hokkaido's first large-scale outlet mall that houses over 400 different brands. Boost your winter wardrobe before heading off to the eastern region of Hokkaido. Keeping the first day short after your overnight flight, hotel check-in will be earlier today. You can enjoy a good soak in Tokachigawa’s moor hotspring too!
Day 02
Tokachigawa Onsen
(Coach: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Tokachigawa Onsen Daiichi Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
Part of the rewards of traveling is getting to meet people from other countries and walks of life, people whose paths that would not ordinarily cross ours. For city dwellers, an encounter with the pastoral sights of Tokachi is a rare and welcome treat. On Tokachi Activity Day, you will be introduced to the warmth of the local people in this very exclusive activity from Follow Me Japan. Hokkaido is renowned for its fertile farmlands and nowhere else is this demonstrated as clearly as in Tokachi. With the abundance of natural resources here, it should come as no surprise that this is also Japan’s “Candy Kingdom”. It is here that you will find Ryugetsu Sweetpia Garden, the factory of Hokkaido’s most popular sweets maker. Try its “Sanporoku” and you will understand why Hokkaido is also known for the delectability of its sweets.
Day 03
Tokachigawa Onsen – Furano
(Coach: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: New Furano Prince Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
Often, food tastes even more delicious when you have had a hand in making it. This morning, you have the opportunity to make your own Soba and enjoy it with the fragrant, piping hot dashi. Have a competition amongst your family members to see who makes the most professional-looking soba! After lunch, have fun at the Furano Trick Art Museum posing for quirky photos with the trick art exhibits. Before heading to your hotel, MacBook owners will encounter a familiar sight at the Biei Blue Pond. Marvel at the azure blue water juxtaposed with the sombre grey of the once-living silver birch and Japanese larch trees, truly an unforgettable sight.
Day 04
Furano
(Coach: Breakfast/-/Dinner)
Hotel: New Furano Prince Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
You will have a free day in Furano today. Bring out the child in you as you explore Furano’s Family Snowland – where thrilling rides on banana boats, snowmobiles and snow rafts await you! Those who prefer a more tranquil way to spend the day need look no further than Ningle Terrace. Charming loghouses, home to local craft shops and intimate cafes are splendid for a serene day spent wandering around and getting some delightful souvenirs.
Day 05
Furano – Otaru
(Coach: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Grand Park Otaru or similar
Unquestionably one of the tour’s highlights is a Hot Air Balloon Ride! Rising high in the crisp and clear winter air, you will get a panoramic view of the sprawling Furano town below and the magnificent Tokachi Mountain Range in the distance. Lunch for today will be at the Asahikawa Ramen Village, where eight of Hokkaido’s best ramen shops have set up branches. Ramen lovers will need little enticement though deciding which ramen to have may prove to be a devilishly thorny issue. Others will need little coaxing to get out of the winter cold for some much needed warm soup. End the day with a visit to the popular Asahiyama Zoo. This is where you will have the chance to observe various animals through its unique display enclosures called "kodo-tenji". The unusual viewpoints afforded give visitors an experience quite unlike other zoos. Watch the vertical swim of the spotted seals, gape at orangutans on a trapeze, and put yourself in the shoes or rather, flippers of the seals, peering up in the middle of the polar bear enclosures. Do not miss the catwalk of the zoo's celebrity-like penguins as they waddle down an invisible carpet lined with camera-totting visitors!
Day 06
Otaru – Sapporo
(Coach: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo or similar
Otaru, a city with its trademark canals and renowned for its glassworks, music boxes, and sweet shops lining its bustling Sakaimachi street. This perserved merchant street is a perfect place for a stroll, shopping and of course a treat of some of the freshest and tastiest seafood in all of Japan. Keep an eye out for a charming Western style building with a tower and you would have found LeTAO, short for "La Tour Amitie Otaru" or The Amiable tower of Otaru. With an impressive range of over 50 kinds of cakes and sweets, LeTAO's addictive cheescake is in such demand that special freezing methods had to be created to enable nationwide delivery. Wander over to Otaru’s Music Box Museum and feel like a child in a toy store as you check out their eye-boggling array of 15,000 music boxes, ranging from matchbox sized souvenirs to precisely tuned masterpieces. All in all, you may wish you had more time to explore this port city. Next, you will stop by the Ishiya Chocolate Factory, a biscuit factory combined with a mini theme park. Besides personalising your very own biscuit, you can observe Japanese efficiency at work as imperfect biscuits are plucked out with confounding speed during the manufacturing process. Do remember to get some Shiroi Koibito, mandatory on the souvenir list of every visitor to Hokkaido. Last but not least, the magical garden outside the factory comes to life every hour so do keep a look out for it too!
Day 07
Sapporo
(Coach: Breakfast/-/-)
Hotel: Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo or similar
On this day, you will have a full day on your own to explore Sapporo, a beautiful city with shopping in every direction. In December, the city hosts the annual Sapporo White Illumination festival, an event that features the artistic collaboration of nature and light with over 400,000 lights bulbs to herald the coming of the snow season. At its main site, the 1 .5km long Odori Park near our hotel, you will find the TV Tower, trees and structures all adorned with colourful light bulbs. The festival is astonishingly powered with renewable energy, including recycled cooking oil and solar panels specially designed to produce power even in the heaviest snow season. Wish for snow as the snow falling adds an extra tinge of mystique to the fantastic scene of Odori Park all lighted up. For best viewing, make your way to the TV Tower or alternatively, the JR Station Tower Observatory.
