Day 01 (Tue, 28 Jan’25)

Singapore – Fukuoka – Yufuin

Arriving in Fukuoka this morning, start your tour with a visit to the ‘Kitchen of Kitakyushu’, Tanga Market. Originating along the banks of the Kantake river where fish were offloaded in the early 1900s, the market has since expanded into a group of about 120 stores while retaining a retro Showa era vibe. Stroll through the narrow streets of the market and sample some of the freshest seafood and produce here.

Day 02 (Wed, 29 Jan’25)

Yufuin

Pay a visit to a pottery workshop in the old castle town of Usuki and learn about Usuki Pottery today. A rare form of pottery originating in the late Edo period, Usuki pottery was abandoned for around 200 years before local potters revived it again. Designed with the goal of accentuating the food placed on it, learn what goes into making Usuki ware a fitting product for this gastronomic town.

Stop by the ‘Niagara of Japan’, Harajiri Falls later. Formed by an eruption of Mt Aso thousands of years ago, the arc shaped waterfall spreads across 120m and cascades down 20m. Admire the falls from all angles, from the top, basin, and even a suspension bridge directly across from it.

Day 03 (Thu, 30 Jan’25)

Yufuin

Explore the quaint town of Yufuin today and stroll down the picturesque shopping street of Yunotsubo Kaido, where boutique stores, intimate cafes and small museums can be found. Drop by the COMICO Art Museum to see artworks by some of Japan’s most famous artists, some of which have been incorporated with the natural scenery. Then finish off your exploration at Lake Kinrinko at the end of the street and at the base of Mt Yufu, where both hot and cold spring waters bubble up.

Day 04 (Fri, 31 Jan’25)

Yufuin – Kurokawa Onsen

The large temperature differences, fresh spring water, and abundant nature in Minami Aso make it an ideal place for cultivating buckwheat, so it is no surprise that many soba shops sprung up in the area, creating Soba Kaido, a collection of soba noodle shops. This is where you can eat delicious homemade soba, and even try your hand at a soba making experience!

Stop by at Kikuka Winery later to try some of their flavourful Kikuka wine. A winery and vineyard surrounded by rich nature, fresh grapes cultivated onsite are used to produce exceptional wines which have won awards both locally and internationally.

Following that, go on a special visit to a strawberry farm where you will encounter one of the biggest and sweetest strawberries, Kikuchi no Manma Hinoshizuku. Only grown in the Kikuchi region, these extra large luxury strawberries are cultivated with honey, giving them an intense sweetness and syrupy aftertaste. A delicate fruit seldom seen in the marketplace, learn more about how it is grown and taste it for yourself!

Day 05 (Sat, 01 Feb’25)

Kurokawa Onsen – Ibusuki

Do some pomelo picking this morning and feast on some of this auspicious fruit for the lunar new year. This large citrus fruit boasts a delicate sweetness and just the right amount of tartness, making it the perfect fruit for this season.

Afterwards head to Kagami Oyster House for some fresh oysters and seafood. Operating only during the winter months, this is where you can try local specialty Kagami oysters which are known for their plump flesh and rich flavour.

Taking the shinkansen down south, rejuvenate yourself in the hot sand baths at your accommodation at Ibusuki Hakusuikan in the evening. The unique sand bath, a tradition of Ibusuki, involves being buried in hot spring-heated sand, a process proven to be effective for improving circulation, driving toxins from the body, and reducing inflammation. Sweat it out in the sand bath before soaking in the hot springs for a restorative experience.

Day 06 (Sun, 02 Feb’25)

Head out to Daikichi Farm this morning where you will learn how they grow delicious, high quality produce sought after both locally and internationally. From the particular attention to the nutrients in the soil, to carefully planting and harvesting produce by hand, uncover the farmers’ efforts in producing the best vegetables and get hands on with harvesting fresh cabbage and kale for yourself!

Try a unique experience of catching flowing noodles for lunch at Tosenkyo Soumen Nagashi. An area renowned for its pure spring waters, circular-style flowing noodles was invented here as a fun and easy way to enjoy noodles with the refreshing spring water.

Back at the hotel, you will be treated to a tea session with a tea master from Ikeda Senchado. A tea specialty shop in Kagoshima, the teas here are curated by owner and tea master of the highest rank, Ikeda Kenta. Learn about the different varieties of tea and how to best prepare them in an informative tea time.

Day 07 (Mon, 03 Feb’25)

Ibusuki – Kagoshima

A traditional Japanese garden that is beautiful in all seasons, Senganen Garden is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is over 350 years old. The garden consists of a preserved residence that was the home of the former ruling Shimazu clan, ponds, streams and shrines, including a cat shine for cat-lovers! The attractive garden is accentuated by the 'borrowed scenery' of Kagoshima Bay and Sakurajima in the background, creating picture-perfect settings.

Satsuma Kiriko cut glass is one of Japan’s most famous glass arts. Characterised by beautifully cut designs on vivid coloured glass, this art form was once lost at the end of the Edo period, but thankfully revived in 1985. Satsuma Kiriko glass is now a proud product of Kagoshima with ever evolving craftsmanship and new designs. Learn more about this once lost art and create your own masterpiece in a Satsuma Kiriko Glass Experience today!

Take a trip out to the symbol of Kagoshima, Sakurajima, one of Japan’s most active volcanoes. Known for its stunning views and interesting geology, it is also where you can find the biggest radishes in the world, Sakurajima daikon. Known to grow extra-large and sweet thanks to the volcanic ash soil found on Sakurajima, learn how these massive radishes were cultivated and get hands on with a Sakurajima daikon harvesting experience!

Tonight you will be treated to a special dinner featuring products from the various experts you’ve met on your journey thus far. A meal curated specially for you by three of Kyushu’s top chefs, indulge in a sumptuous dinner of the best local ingredients, made extra meaningful having met the people behind the food prepared.
