Kyushu has a beautiful mix of history, folklore, natural sights and wonderful cuisine. Begin your trip with a short trip to Fukuoka’s most famous shrine – Dazaifu Shrine, built in the memory of a 9th century official named Sugawara Michizane who was deified as a god of scholarship on the merit of his great learning. Hence, Daizaifu Shrine has become a Mecca for students taking university entrance examinations to seek divine favour from this deity of learning. Look for the bridge symbolizing past, present and future, and Tobiume or flying plum tree among the thousands of plum trees on the grounds.

(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Awake in the morning to find yourself in South Kyushu. This region is a showcase for nature’s masterpieces and Aoshima is one beautiful example. Perfectly straight rows of basalt rock that can be seen during low tides ring this small island in a geographical phenomenon aptly named by the Japanese as Oni no Sentakuita or Devil’s Washboard.
Day 04 (Thur, 07 Dec)

(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: On board Cruise Train Seven Stars
With only five villas and an area of 60 hectares, Tenku no Mori is a highly exclusive resort, touted as a place to reignite the spark you did not know you had lost! Take a lovely walk here and the significance of its name "forest in the sky" will dawn on you swiftly enough. This Japanese Eden is the fruit of more than 10 years of landscaping labour by the site's owner, Tajima san. With a view of the Kirishima mountain range, relish in a lunch of original cuisine made with homegrown ingredients.
In the afternoon, head out to either Sengan-en Garden or Chin Jukan Kiln. This traditional garden is known for "borrowed scenery" from Kagoshima Bay and Sakurajima, an active volcano. Cat lovers should head to Nekogami Jinja, a shrine dedicated to cats! As a testament of its historical significance, the garden was used extensively in the filming of NHK's 2008 Taiga drama Atsuhime. At the Chin Jukan Kiln, learn about the Korean origins of Chin Jukan pottery and view works by generations of this leading pottery family. Not only can you admire the exquisiteness of Satsuma ware and marvel at the precision demanded by their carving techniques, you can try pottery painting too!
