Arriving in Narita this morning, head to Naritasan Omotesando Street, an 800m long old town street that still retains the charm of Edo period Japan. Walk along the shops, peruse locally-made products, and snack on yokan sweet bean jelly, rice crackers and more. Not to be missed are the many shops selling eel, the delicacy of Narita.
Later, pay a visit to the magnificent sea cliffs of Byobugaura located along the north-eastern coast of Chiba prefecture. The 40m to 50m high cliffs stretch for around 10m along the coast and are said to resemble the White Cliffs of Dover in the United Kingdom.
Day 02 (Sat, 20 Apr'24)

This morning, head to Wada Park, a large park along the shores of Lake Kasumigaura. Besides its pleasant waterfront views, the park is known for its roughly 120,000 tulips which bloom brightly here each April.
Move on to the sprawling Ibaraki Flower Park next. Home to over 900 varieties of roses, the prefectural flower of Ibaraki, the park was renovated in 2021 to create an immersive experience for visitors beyond just admiring the flowers. Here you will enjoy a flower-themed lunch which is as pleasing to the eye as to the palate.
Kasama City is Japan’s top producer of Japanese chestnuts and at GRUYÉRES, a popular local café and confectionary shop, these chestnuts are used to create delectable desserts using fresh local ingredients. Try some of their chestnut desserts and other delicious creations for tea here.

Today you will have a professional photographer join you to capture beautiful memories of your holiday. Dress up and get photo-ready as you surround yourself with fields of flowers at the Hitachi Seaside Park! Located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, this spacious park is home to a huge variety of flowers and other plants. In this season, you will be treated to rolling hills covered in baby blue Nemophila, bright yellow canola, and colourful tulips.
In the afternoon, stroll round one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, Kairakuen. Constructed to share the enjoyment of flowers with not only feudal lords, but commoners as well, Kairakuen features plum trees, a bamboo grove, cedar woods and Kobuntei, a traditional Japanese style building. Take in the beauty of this garden full of flowers and greenery!
Tonight’s dinner will be at Sessonan, a locally acclaimed restaurant which marries French and Basque cuisine with top quality local ingredients from Ibaraki. Preparing food in ingenious ways, you will get to taste international cuisine with a touch of Japanese quality and hospitality.
Day 04 (Mon, 22 Apr'24)

Start this morning with a visit to Oarai Isosaki Shrine, built in 856 to enshrine two deities believed to be the creators of Japan. Uniquely, the shrine has three torii gates in different locations, the most famous being Kamiiso no Torii, a majestic torii gate standing on a rock facing the sunrise at the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
Located next to the Oarai port, Oarai Seafood Market is where the catch of the day can be found. Here, you can have freshly caught fish and shellfish cooked for you to try, and pick up some of their popular dried fish and other seafood products to bring home.
Pay a visit to the oldest sake brewery in Japan, Sudo Honke, later. Founded in 1141, the renowned brewery has continued for 55 generations and makes excellent unfiltered sake using traditional processes which prioritises using the best ingredients and natural environment for brewing sake. Learn about the efforts they make to produce sake and taste some for yourself!

Spring is the season for strawberries, so indulge in some strawberry picking! Pick and eat your fill of delicious, sweet strawberries at a strawberry farm and get some for the road too!?
Considered one of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, Fukuroda Falls is a sight to see, regardless of the season. The 120m tall waterfall has 4 tiers that silver threads of water cascade down, surrounded by fresh greenery bursting forth around it. Admire the falls from the two observation decks at its base and top for two different, but equally attractive, views.
Ibaraki is known for producing high quality pure urushi, Japanese lacquer, which is sought after by craftsmen nationwide. Aiming to pass on the production of urushi and lacquerware to the next generation, Kijian was established as a workshop and store producing and selling lacquerware. Housed in an old storehouse dating back to the Meiji era, you can learn the elaborate processes involved in creating lacquerware from a master craftsman here.

Fukuroda – Nikko

Go shopping this morning at Sano Premium Outlets, a large mall modelled after an American east coast town. Home to 180 stores featuring renowned domestic and international brands, you can indulge in shopping at outlet prices.
Get your fill of flowers at Ashikaga Flower Park, famous for its abundant wisteria flowers. Over 350 blooming wisteria trees create spectacular tunnels of purple, pink, white and even yellow flowers overhead. On the ground, over 5,000 bushes of azalea colour the landscape with bright blossoms that complement the hanging wisteria. Surround yourself with the gorgeous colours and sweet scents of flowers here!

Make a stop at Kegon Waterfall this morning, the most famous of Nikko’s many falls and one of the most beautiful in Japan. This 97m tall waterfall is the only outlet for Lake Chuzenji, a scenic mountain lake situated behind it, and is accompanied by about 12 smaller waterfalls to its side and back.
A must-visit in Nikko is the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Built as the final resting place for Tokugawa Ieyasu, enshrined here as the “Great Deity of the East Shining Light”, it contains elements of both Buddhism and Shintoism, a practice that no longer exists today. Moreover, the extravagant design, which includes intricate wood carvings and gold leaf decorations, is a rarity amongst shrines in Japan. Admire the unique architecture and beautiful wood carvings of the buildings as you wander round the shrine grounds.
