Departure date: 13th Jun, 2017 (Tue) Drive Tour
Day 01 (Tue, 13 Jun)
Singapore - Fukuoka - Yufuin
(B/L/D)
Hotel: Suginoi Hotel (Hot Spring) or similar
(Car pick-up at Fukuoka Airport branch)
Kyushu has a beautiful mix of history, folklore, and natural sights. Begin your tour with a visit to Fukuoka’s most famous shrine – Dazaifu Shrine, built to the memory of a 9th century government official named Sugawara Michizane. Because of his great learning, he has been associated with the god of scholarship. Hence, Daizaifu Shrine has now become the most popular place to visit for students taking entrance examinations in order to seek divine favour from the deity of learning. Enroute to going to the hotel, you will take some time travelling back to the Edo period at the Mameda Town. This Edo style town has some of the oldest merchant houses and storehouses in Japan, such as the Kusano House built in 1641.
Day 02 (Wed, 14 Jun)
Yufuin - Aso
(B/-/D)
Hotel: Aso Farm Land (Hot Spring) or similar
Take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque town of Yufuin in the morning. The main street is lined with intimate cafes, boutiques and small museums, rounding up with a visit to the beautiful Lake Kinrinko nearby. When in Kyushu, one of the must-visits has to be the Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge. Your next stop will be a thrilling one as it is definitely not for the faint-hearted. The Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge spans the mountain valleys at 375 metres from one end to another and towers at the height of 777 metres. The dramatic elevation and the slight swaying in the wind will make it even more exciting.
Day 03 (Thu, 15 Jun)
Aso
(B/-/D)
Hotel: Aso Farm Land (Hot Spring) or similar
Some consider Takachiho Gorge the most beautiful sight of Miyazaki prefecture. The V-shaped gorge has been formed by the Gokase River as it carves its way through the Aso lava. Sheer precipitous cliffs rise up on both sides of the jade green river, narrowing to a mere 3 metres at parts and soaring to over 100 metres at others. Do take some time for a leisure hike or boating to enjoy the stunning green in season.
Day 04 (Fri, 16 Jun)
Aso - Nagasaki
(B/-/D)
Hotel: Luke Plaza Hotel or similar
Today we will be visiting the Unzen area, a hot spring resort town near the peak of Mount Unzen. Not far from Nagasaki, the town is surrounded on several sides by hot spring fields. Mt Unzen is an active volcano recognised for its natural beauty and made part of one of the first national parks in Japan. Enjoy a leisure drive up the mild green mountain road. There is also a network of walking trails through the Unzen Hells located on the slopes of Mt Unzen. You can see several steam vents, gushing hot springs, mud holes and observation points. It is this barren, rocky area that provides waters to the hot spring ryokan around the town.
Day 05 (Sat, 17 Jun)
Nagasaki
(B/-/D)
Hotel: Luke Plaza Hotel or similar
The city of Nagasaki has a history of exposure to foreign cultures due to its proximity to the Asian mainland and also as one of the few ports open for foreign trade during Japan’s period of isolation. This morning you will visit the Nagasaki Peace Park which commemorates the atomic bombing of Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. The 9.7m Peace Statue in the park bears a solemn memory of a heart-rending page of Japan’s history. After that, over at the Glover Garden, European influence is evident in this charming Western-style residence from the Meiji Period and picturesque gardens. Later in the evening, you will get to satisfy your stomach by a delectable Teppanyaki dinner at the hotel.
Day 06 (Sun, 18 Jun)
Nagasaki - Toyokan
(B/-/D)
Hotel: Toyokan (Hot Spring) or similar
