The flowers were re-planted last year to replace flagging specimens so the period of full bloom is expected to be especially spectacular.
Another highlight will be the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station, approx. 2300 meters above sea level, where you’ll see a commanding view of the Fuji Five Lakes area below, a venue that’s popular even for those who are not intent on climbing the mountain. One of the best places to view wisteria flowers is the Ashikaga Flower Park which will be the highlight of today. The park also has an abundance of yellow, red, and white wisteria that hang delicately from trellises constructed over the walking paths. The multicolour wisteria covering the whole grounds of the Park during the blooming season are breathtaking sights not to be missed as such large scale wisteria trellises are very rare. While the park is filled with a variety of wisteria, its centrepiece is undoubtedly the Japan’s largest wisteria tree. The vivid, purple blossoms of this nearly 150-year-old tree expand over half an acre of the park and CNN even suggested that the famed wisteria looked to be the inspiration for the Tree of Souls in the hit movie, “Avatar”.
