Arriving in Kushiro today, make your first stop the Kushiro Japanese Crane Reserve. Once thought to be extinct, the Japanese red crowned cranes were first successfully bred at this facility. Here, around 10 cranes, which are designated as a special natural monument of Japan, are raised in an environment that resembles their natural habitat and can be seen all year round.

Lake Akan
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza (hot spring) or similar
This morning, visit one of the clearest lakes in the world, Lake Mashu. Known as “Kamuy-tou” in the Ainu language, its name means “Lake of the Gods”. This name comes as no surprise given the spectacular views of the clear water and surrounding sheer cliffs that can be seen from the observatory.
Move on to the queer sight of Mt Iou, an active volcano peppered with vents emitting plumes of smoke and sulphur. The yellow sulphur dotting the barren landscape of the mountain gives it an unusual speckled appearance.
After lunch take a walk in nature in a special Lake Akan activity. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of the caldera lake, the fifth largest in Hokkaido, and the pristine natural forests that surround it, an area designated as a national park.
Day 03 (Wed, 17 Jul’19)
Lake Akan – Furano
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Furano Resort Orika or similar
Also known as the five-coloured lake, Lake Onneto was formed by the eruption of Mt. Meakan. Its water changes colour depending on sunlight and temperature, going from a gleaming bottle green to a deep azure. Make a stop here this morning to see what wonderful shade it is today!
Next, join us in Follow Me Japan’s special activity! Be introduced to the warmth and passion of the people of Tokachi on our Tokachi Activity Day, a hit with our holidaying crowd. See Hokkaido from the eyes of the locals and experience the real Hokkaido on this day!
A man-made lake surrounded by virgin forests, immerse yourself in the nature of Hokkaido at Lake Kanayama. Stroll on the shores of the lake and enjoy the summer breeze as it carries the scent of lavender from the field next to it.
Day 04 (Thu, 18 Jul’19)
Furano
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: Furano Resort Orika or similar
Head to the rolling flower fields of Farm Tomita today! Famous for their lavender, the farm is home to vast expanses of flower fields that reach out into the distance. Bask in the sight, and smell, of calming lavender, and frolic amid a rainbow carpet of colourful flowers!
Later, enjoy the cheerful blossoms at Shikisai no Oka, the “Hill of Four Seasons”. The undulating hills of flowers are especially gorgeous in summer when in full bloom and can be appreciated by strolling through the park, or taking a ride on the tractor bus.
More often seen in pictures, you can see the real Shirogane Blue Pond for yourself this afternoon. The azure blue of the water is caused by its mineral composition and makes a fascinating sight juxtaposed against its sombre grey trees.
Day 05 (Fri, 19 Jul’19)
Furano – Asahikawa
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Hotel: OMO7 Asahikawa or similar
Today begins with a visit to Hokkaido’s highest mountain at 2,291m, Mt. Asahidake. Take the Asahidake Ropeway up the mountain for breath-taking views of the volcanic Ishikari mountain range and surrounding greenery.
Using rice fields as a canvas and 6 varieties of rice as the medium, Rice Paddy Art is a sight to see! Spanning 40 metres by 170 metres, the massive art work can be viewed from a scaffolding next to the field.
